omars_podcast
Less than 2 weeks ago I had the sheer luck to be able to dance to Omar S as he played at Pleasure Principle on my new home turf and as luck would have that this new podcast has just surfaced. If you’re familiar with Omars S then you’ll know his deep and soulful grooves. If not then give this a listen anyway. There’s no better way to kick start the summer. Perfect!

“If the Sound Signature label releases are for the body, Wildheart is for everything else,” (Theo Parrish)

Detroit House icon and dance music renegade Theo Parrish is set to launch his new label ‘Wildheart Recordings’ this May. Aiming less for the dancefloor and more for the soul. The label will run alongside with his current label ‘Sound Signature’ and the first release features a collaboration between Parrish and Afrobeat legend Tony Allen. Entitled Day Like This/Feel Loved this release is scheduled for May 2013.

She got the miners, destroyed the British manufacturing industry and condemned millions to a life on welfare… But she could NOT destroy our scene.

A great and insightful piece in Vice Magazine on the British (Maggie’s) governments laughably misguided war on Rave culture in Britain in the late eighties and early nineties. Well worth your time whether you were there or not. Some fantastic (and nostalgia inducing) photos too!!

Acieeeeed!! :)

abstrakt

UK Techno LEGEND Colin Dale is set to relaunch Abstrakt Dance Records with the somewhat awesome tagline of:

“Like a phoenix whirling up from the ashes of the legendary “Abstrakt Dance” records of the 90s, comes a supersonic rebirth of cutting edge sound.”

This promises to be something special as anyone who is even vaguely connected with the Techno and forward thinking House Music scenes should know; Mr Dale is a bastion of good taste for music. Let the good times roll!! :)

Techno’s godfather Juan Atkins and Techno/Dub guru Moritz Von Otswald are almost ready to unleash their tantalising ‘Borderland’ project. They will launch the project publicly with a live performance at the ‘Mutek’ Festival this year and their first LP will follow shortly thereafter on Tresor, the LP has been scheduled for release on June 10, and I for one will be waiting with bated breath!! This sounds like a project worth waiting for. Exciting times.

This Sunday sees the return of ‘The Electric Underground’ to Timeline Music and Terry Mitchell’s special guest for this specially extended relaunch is all the way from Croatia, and boy is this man gifted. Whether you are religious or not, we are sure that many of you will be taking advantage of the fact that this Friday is a holiday and will be celebrating in one way or another on Thursday night. Well Timeline Music is offering a killer opportunity to get you warmed up for your night’s festivities!!

Kicking off at 8pm(GMT) Tom Long’s weekly ‘Cognition’ show is playing host to none other than the genre bending Stephen Brown (Transmat, Theory, Skudge, Subject Detroit…) who will be delivering a live PA straight through the interwebs. Directly afterwards none other than Rob Belleville (MinimalSoul, Random, Flying Flowers, Purebox) will be launching his monthly show for Timeline music called ‘The Charm of Vinyl’ which will be focussing on his Detroit leaning sounds with that distinctive Dutch veneer.

All in all a good reason to stay in on ‘Good Friday’s Eve’ or at the very least, one hell of a warm up for a night on the town. Remember it all starts at 8pm GMT HERE:

RobBellevilleTheCharmOfVinyl

Every last Thursday of the month Rob Belleville will musically enrich your evening with the lushest and ear-resistible tunes on vinyl. Rob is not afraid to show his predilection for Detroit(ish) Techno and he is always eager to promote the unique Dutch techno sound as well (including his own productions). Join Rob in his monthly show of dusty wax, forgotten classics and skipping needles, operating from the green heart of the Netherlands.

Join Rob this Thursday 10-12pm (GMT) 9-11pm (CET) on Timeline Music HERE:

For those who missed it, a great performance from and interview with the man himself Jeff Mills. Showcasing a varied selection from him and some interesting insights from the man himself. The music and visuals are best viewed in a darkened room on a big screen and with the volume on number eleven!!

This June sees the relaunch of the Infamous ‘Player’ record label. The enigmatic and anonymous project began in the year 2000 and quickly established itself as a benchmark for gritty, ‘urban’ Techno with a touch of Hip Hop sensibilities, a healthy dose of Slam and a creamy head of Funk. This will be a welcome return for many, and I for one am looking forward to hear what they come up with. To help you get better acquainted with their sound ‘Player’ are offering many of their rarities as a free download on their Bandcamp page. Yes FREE!! Check out what they have to offer HERE: And watch this space for more news on the relaunch.

Underground Resistance warriors Mark Flash and DJ Dex wax lyrical on how Techno is perceived in the good old USA. We at Timeline Music feel that their words are relevant to many other societies too and are all the more poignant for this reason.

For those of you who haven’t already heard Messrs Derrick May and Jimmy Edgar are collaborating on a new tour called ‘We Love Detroit’ starting in March and finishing in September. The more astute amongst you may have noticed that this tour bears the same name as the duo’s recently released album compiling just how the two see Detroit’s Techno history. Bingo, that’s what it is all about. Detroit Techno. Details below. Say. No. More.

Just in case you were beginning to wonder what Timeline Music Favourite Ed Davenport has been up to of late, fear not. It has just been announced that he is back with his own brand new label called Counterchange and will be releasing a 4 track EP to get things started. We can’t wait to hear this and future productions!

Watch this space.

If, like me you like your beats raw, jacking…. ‘Tracky’ even then this will, I am sure be fantastic news. Paul Johnson an integral part of the original Dance Mania announced this week in a Facebook post that this is confirmed the return of the label is “imminent”. I am hoping with every ounce of my being that this means a remastered digital reissue of the back catalog is coming. Fingers crossed!

Saturday 30th March will see something special going down in the hallowed halls of London’s Fabric Club. Representatives of both the old and new guard of Detroit Techno will be tearing down and rearranging the club to create something that promises to be more than a little bit special.
In room one, Visionquest will be presenting the next in their series of thirteen events where they create totally immersive environments in spaces you already know, enhancing the connection between the performers and the audience, the music and the listener. To top off this admirable concept they have only gone and brought some representatives of the newer school of Detroit in the shape of Seth Troxler, Shaun Reeves, Lee Curtiss, Ryan Crosson and Wareika LIVE.

In rooms two and three there will be a veritable bonanza of old and new school Detroit Techno/House shenanigans, including what should be some highly diverse back to back sessions (in room three), check this out:
Room two:CURATORS OF TECHNO:Kevin Saunderson, Kenny Larkin, Kyle Hall.
Room three:CURATORS OF TECHNO: Kevin Saunderson B2B Seth Troxler, Patrice Scott, Kyle Hall B2B Patrice Scott

All in all what promises to be a night of outstanding musical talent showcasing the progression and diversity of the Detroit Techno sound.
